4 ways the things you wear change your behaviour
Clothing has super powers…
Lets experiment. Stay in your pyjamas all day and I can guarantee that you’ll put minimum effort into your day. In fact you’ll move from your bed, to the couch, to the kitchen. Now throw on a pair of jeans, instantly you feel more energised. I bet you’ve attempted to put the washing or cleaned the coffee table.
Clothing has the power to change our behaviour and psychological process. In scientific lingo this is called “enclothed cognition”. You know that phrase, “you are what you eat”? Well quite frankly you are what you wear also, so how exactly does clothing change our behaviour?
When we try on new clothing we see ourselves as a different person, taking on a new identity and mood.
Wearing yellow, or bright colours can lift our mood, but only if we believe it has the power to do so.
Due to it’s association with attractiveness, wearing red and black, can make us feel more attractive
Heard of the phrase, get your thinking caps on? Well getting your thinking suit on works wonders too, because wearing a formal business coat/blazer can enhance our cognitive processing, and we perceive ourselves as more rational, competent and critical thinkers.
