Ever heard of the saying the clothes make the man? Well truth of the matter is, we constantly make judgments of people based on what they are wearing and we often dress to project a certain image.

Research has time and time again shown that wearing red is associated with specific perceptions. Red is often considered a daring colour and most of us would favour a little black dress over a bright red one. But I can give you two perfectly good reasons which would change your mind (apart from the fact that it suits every skin tone).

Put simply, research has consistently and successfully shown that red is associated with positive feelings, and wearing red not only allows others to form positive perceptions about you (the red dress effect) but also enhances the way you feel about yourself. Just in case you’re not convinced I give you specific reasons for wearing red (based on research) and how you should wear it to project the image that you want… It’s more likely to get you the guy!

Men find women wearing the colour red more attractive. A survey carried out by a dating site (OkCupid) had found that women who wear red in their online dating profile pictures were more likely to receive more messages and be asked out on more dates, than women wearing any other colour. In fact women tend to subconsciously wear shades of pinks and reds when they are ovulating – the time of the month that they are at their most fertile, this make sense, as women want to attract a mate. What makes the colour red to be perceived more attractive, however is the fact that men overestimate the woman’s sexual intent. Driven by Westernised cultural norms, men associate red with sex! From the “red light district” to Valentine’s day and the window’s of Lingerie stores (Ann Summer’s is the perfect example).

As you read, men overestimate a woman’s sexual intent when she wears red, so to avoid any misunderstandings on the first date, we suggest you go simple and less suggestive with a red skater red dress or a blazer. Evening Dinner Date

The colour of your clothing can impact your mood; red is positively associated with employability, this is because the fiery colour enhances your confidence levels. Specifically women wearing red tend to be more successful in their interviews for jobs requiring warm characteristics such as teaching. Red being a warm colour projects exactly that, that the person wearing the colour is also warm, kind and caring.

Wearing red for an interview should be toned down a notch, you’re aim is to project that you are keen, capable and confident. Wearing a simple red blouse, or a red skirt will increase you’re chances of getting that dream job. We’ve chosen a suede midi skirt just because we’re loving suede this season!
